Maharashtra Groundwater FAQ

Is borewell permission required in Maharashtra?

Yes, in notified areas (Critical/Over-Exploited zones), NOC from GSDA is mandatory. Even in non-notified areas, registration is recommended.

What is the fee for borewell permission?

Fees vary by category:

  • Domestic: Minimal/Free in many areas
  • Agricultural: Reduced rates
  • Industrial: Higher fees based on volume
  • Commercial: Volume-based pricing
Can I dig borewell in scarcity-declared taluka?

No. During official drought/scarcity declaration, new borewells are prohibited in affected talukas. Only repair of existing borewells allowed with permission.

What is 7/12 extract and why is it needed?

7/12 extract is Maharashtra's land ownership record. It's required to prove you own the land where borewell will be dug. Obtain from Talathi office or mahabhumi.gov.in

How to register water tanker in Maharashtra?

Tanker registration is managed by local municipal corporations. For rural areas, contact Gram Panchayat or Taluka office. GPS tracking may be mandatory in urban areas.
